Luca's Health

We had Luca's ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) appointment this morning to determine whether we should have tubes placed in his ears or not. The doctor looked at his history and said he is definitely a candidate for tubes. Their qualifications are 4 ear infections in a six month period and Luca's had 7. He looked in his ears and his left was clear, but his right had fluid (although wasn't infected). They did a hearing test and he had normal to mild hearing loss, which was 100% due to the fluid in his right ear and is not permanent.

Basically, the doctor left it up to us. He definitely qualifies, but with the warmer weather and older age, we may see a decrease in his infections. We decided to give it 4 more weeks and see how he does. If he gets another ear infection in that time, we will go ahead and have tubes placed. If not, we'll wait out the summer. Either way, I'm glad we went and now have the option in our hands.

After his ENT appointment, he had his 12 month well baby check at his pediatrician. He was actually a well baby! How interesting to go in on the well side, instead of the sick side. :)

Everything went well at the appointment, except he had to get 2 shots in his legs and one in the arm. There is nothing worse that holding down your screaming baby so that a nurse can stick needles in him!! :(

Weight: 24 lbs, 15 oz (80th%) --> only gained 15 oz since his 9 month appointment, all the sickness finally caught up with him.

Height: 31" (75th%) --> down from the 90th% at 9 months
